The Artist
Since her earliest years as a child in the fens, Claire McGinley has been aware of a strong sense of place. She gradually learned to express this in various media which, to her, seems like using different dialects of the same language.
She began a fresh exploration of landscape following an unexpected return to the fens. Colour is important to her, and she focuses on this before form, mostly using soft pastel or, sometimes, watercolour. She works outside in all seasons whenever possible, documenting what she sees and feeling the land and layers of time as she paints.
